In Order to Grow, You've Got To Move Beyond Your Comfort Zone

While washing the dishes last night I noticed my beautiful plant waving his green leaves at me showing how big he’s become. In all his speedy growth I knew it was time to replant him into a bigger pot so that he can continue to spread his roots and progress toward his natural state of growth.

Two things that came to my mind when staring at my plant: the love I have put into caring for him and actually realizing how many leaves he has now and how tall he has become. There was patience involved as well as trust, just knowing that all I need to do is water his soil and he will grow. It’s the same process when planting new seeds in your garden of life, this garden could be anything from growing your business to creating a relationship you’ve always wanted. You must take consistent action to make sure your garden blooms and grows and inevitably you will see the fruits of your labor. During this cultivation you will notice the best fertilizer to speed up the process, so that could be meeting the right network of business owners or creating a new thought form that allows you to be worthy of receiving a dream love in your life. Be patient and committed to your garden and watch it bloom!

The second thought when seeing his rapid state of growth, knowing that he needs to be repotted was Robert Allen’s quote “Everything you want is just outside your comfort zone”. Take my plant’s pot for example. His old pot has a certain circumference to it, which we will call his “comfort zone”. In that comfort zone his roots can only expand so much therefore only allowing him to grow to a certain height. The new pot that is bigger and has a much wider circumference is beyond his comfort zone, representing personal growth, development, increase in height, width, more leaves and deeper stronger roots. So in order for my plant to grow he must leave his comfort zone and move into a new pot, one he’s never experienced before.

Comfort Zone is his current pot, notice the smaller size. Potential, Growth and Expansion is the new larger pot!

There comes a time when we must move beyond what we know as familiar and experience new territory, expand our consciousness and stretch to reach our full potential. As I placed my plant into his new home, I know that it will take a moment of adjusting, integrating his current soil into the new and naturally he will begin too spread his roots out further, becoming stronger and deeper in his new territory. You see, if you really want what you really want, you’re going to have to tread new waters, do something different in your life and be a little bit uncomfortable. You can’t keep doing the same things expecting different results, something within the equation requires change and that change is within you. If you find yourself at a standstill in your life or not seeing any changes happening the way you hope they would then you are sitting in your comfort zone.

Taking the leap and moving into the new pot and happy to be able to continue on the path of growth!

To seek new and positive change in your live, you’ve got to widen your own circumference of knowledge, experiences and take on new endeavors, try things you’ve never tried before, push a little bit harder and take a step outside of your own comfort zone.

So take a moment today to examine your own comfort zone:

  1. What is not working in your life today? What areas in your life are you not seeing the changes you want?
  2. Now look at what you have been doing over and over again to create the same result.
  3. Take that pattern and ask yourself, what can I do differently in order to achieve the result that I do want?
  4. Brainstorm ideas just outside of your comfort zone of where you need to go, what you need to do, who you need to connect with in order to manifest your desired result.
  5. Embrace the exciting possibility that your next move will take you closer to your desire and trust in your ability to expand, grow and achieve what you truly want. Take action on one thing today that moves you beyond your comfort zone.
  6. Have patience and compassion for yourself as you cultivate new experiences in your life. This is the water and fertilizer that will help you flourish, so remember to tend to your new garden with loving care.

Morning Pages - A Practice in Receiving Creative Flow

Aaaaaah Yes! Morning Pages! I am back on the journey once again... stepped away from it but an inner voice has been speaking and telling me to revisit the practice. And so all I can do is listen to that voice and take action :)

This morning's morning pages :) I just LOVE how the light shines on the words as I write on my little desk in my meditation room!

What are Morning Pages???

Morning Pages is an exercise from Julia Cameron's fabulous book The Artist's Way. It is 3 pages of long hand stream of consciousness writing that is done first thing when you wake up in the morning. You write whatever comes into your mind without really thinking about it, just write, no pausing, just fill up an entire 3 pages of a notebook/journal. Write without filters, be graphic, nasty, raw, honest, deep, insightful, ecstatic, loopy, crazy, neurotic. There is no right or wrong to the process and isn't meant to be perfect or presentable so don't even judge what you write. And if you don't know what to write then write "I don't know what to write" over and over again until something else comes into your mind to write down.

The idea of doing morning pages is to basically take a "Mental S@#!" according to my friend Quincy! Hahaha! You purge everything and anything that is in
your body mind spirit onto paper so that you create the space to receive creative energy. If you keep buying new clothes and never get rid of the old, you won't have any room to hang your new beautiful clothes in your closet. In order to bring in the new, you must let go of the old and it's the same with our minds and Spirit. We take on so much everyday, mentally, physically and energetically and it's necessary for us to take the time to clean our inner house. So it's mental cleaning, mind shower, brain drain, thought purge. With this space we allow an opening for new ideas, inspirations, insights, answers and guidance to come into our spirit.

I learned about this process about 3 years ago and practiced it for nearly a year. It was one of the most amazing experiences I had incorporated into my daily routine. At first it was a bit of a challenge to move out your own way and sometimes I found myself not knowing what to write or pausing to think about how to say something but once you really open up to being one with your journal then some mind blowing things will come through from you. After about the 2nd week is when I saw how these morning pages started making a difference in my life. My headspace was emptier, I definitely felt the itch to do some painting, doodling, sketching and just being creative. I received answers from spirit, formulated new ideas and was able to find solutions to various problems in my life. There were less worries I was wrapping my head around throughout the day and could feel forward movement in my spirit.

After not having written consistently like that for months, I am now committed to the good life again :) I could already feel the elation in me after having done my first morning page...
welcome back me!

How to incorporate morning pages into your life:
  • Buy yourself a notebook or journal, get fancy or plain jane whatever floats your boat.
  • Pens are super important to me... I am so particular because it has to feel good writing so find one that feels fabulous to your fingers.
  • Wake up 20 minutes earlier (ooh I already hear the whining, trust me its worth it)
  • Create a space in your home where you can write without distraction and make it comfy, light a candle, burn some incense, I wrap myself in a blanket and write... too bad I don't have a snuggie it would probably make it easier!
  • If you aren't a morning person and just can't absolutely find time with the rising sun, then perhaps if you ride a train to work then write on your commute, or take 15 minutes during your lunch break, but find time during the day to write. If you can find time for online social networking you can find time to clean your inner house :)
Morning pages are called morning pages because it's truly meant for the morning. That way you can clear the clutter first thing and have the rest of the day to play! Try it out and let me know how it goes for you :) Love and light!

Shaving My Head - A Personal Journey Through Revealing My Authentic Self

For so many years I've wanted to shave my head... it's something I've talked about for so long, even when I was still living in Chicago, ask my BFF Natalie, she can attest to the yearnings of a shaved head. But there was always a hesitancy to it because of the attachment I had to my hair and how that created the perception of who I was to the world. I used to have hair that touched my waist, long flowing locks that I just LOVED!

Long locks and living in Tucson, Arizona

It kept me warm, cozy and there was this sexual energy to having gorgeous thick black locks... it made me feel like a woman, a Fairy, a Goddess, people would ask to touch it, feel it, tell me how beautiful it was and it heightened my sense of confidence, defining who I was and who I was trying to be. It became a trademark for my own personal sense of beauty, it held so much energy of a decade. A decade filled of extreme darkness, elevated bliss, endless searching and paramount growth. My hair travelled with me, camping cross country, backpacking in Spain, snorkeling in Philippines and surfing in Hawaii, moving from Chicago to Tucson to Vegas. It's been through circles of friends, numerous boyfriends, and a wedding! Ha! Various calculated hairstyles have served in the role as daughter, sister, friend, teacher, student, artist, muralist, designer, dancer, globe-trekker, psychic, healer, life coach, me.

There are so many what if's we love to entertain when pushing past our comfort zones, moving beyond our own fears and self imposed limitations. I found myself wrapping my head around these what if's every time I contemplated on shaving my head, then realized it truly isn't that big of a deal. My hair grows back. It's always in a constant state of growth, just like Spirit and just like change. Welcoming in a new decade, at the same time I've moved into my 30's, and stepping out of Saturn's Return has stirred up feelings to just let the past go. To shed many false beliefs and attachments of who I made myself up to be, who I was pretending to be and just being me. Since my hair was such a magnet for so much energy it felt natural to let it go. Pushing past fears of being seen, expressing my heart and soul and embracing every facet of my own unique being, shadow sides and all.

A time to reveal, a way to open up to who I am and shining from inner beauty, authenticity, confidence and courage, illuminating the light that comes from within.

I did a lot of hiding the past ten years, hiding from my creativity, hiding from my natural gifts, talents, hiding from my self worth and deservingness and the past several years have been truly transformational. I've grown into who I always was, allowing my inner child to play and love with no limits, owning my Goddess energy, harnessing both the feminine and masculine within, coming full circle to a more elevated consciousness of self. Define my own sexy fierceness through taking flight in my power, passions and truths. Life is abundance. Spirit is magnificent. And I'm a co creator in that magic! Embodying the next steps in evolution... on January 1, 2010, with a deep breath, a quiet meditation, Dave and I turned up the music and laughed as I took the clippers to my head. Aaaaaah! Freedom. Elation. Expansion. Loving me for me.

Enjoy the pics :) The video that I took was erased, unfortunately... but these serve the purpose just as perfectly!

Smile, luckily I've been prepping myself by cutting my hair shorter with each visit to the salon!

Feeling funny against my head! LOL!

And there it goes!

Half way there!

Dave helping me even it all out, he's been wanting me to shave my head forever! It's nice having moral support :)

Tada! Feeling Fresh!

Enjoying the new do at Tao :)

Happy New Year!!!

Happy New Year Kindred Spirit Lovelies!!! We rang in the New Year here in Las Vegas at my hubby's club Eye Candy at Mandalay Bay. And it was super duper fun!!! I was feeling overwhelmingly blessed to be surrounded by the people I love and partying in Las Vegas always seems to have a heightened energy to it!
Here are some fun pics to share:

The hubs and I :)

Amor, Isabel and me.

Dave, Autumn, Tony

Dj D Double and Dj Mick Boogie

Eye Candy

Better Eye Candy!!! Wink Wink :) Hanging with my ladies!

Candy Cane Break, Paul and I

Mick Boogie spinnin :) A packed house of love and fun! Happy New Year 2010!

With all that celebrating, are you as moved, inspired and joyous about this 2010 as myself??? Just the energy of a blue moon has been magical and to top of Mercury Retrograde to add to the energies has been insightful in allowing myself to go within, listen and stay quiet to what is true within my heart. Action will be taking place, but for now I am reveling in non-action of being, growing and emerging from within... inner action would be a good term for it :)

And soooo some new things I've been wanting to play with in my life for 2010 is videos! I believe posting videos on my blog will be a new and fun thing for me to explore... partly I believe it has to do with more of revealing my true self. I tend to be a photo person, I love taking photographs, I love having my photo taken and I don't mind sharing photos with the world, but I believe the idea of videos shows a bit more of who you truly are. And so since one of my intentions this year is to reveal my heart's truth in brighter ways, it's only in alignment for me to not hide merely behind writing, words, blogging, articles, photos but to let my voice, character and spirit be expressed live :) Yay!

So here's my first video!!! I gave myself New Year's morning to take a mini getaway to
Red Rock Canyon , a gorgeous national conservation area that is only a 20 minute drive from my home and it always feels like I'm in another world when I'm there. I indulged in the majesty of the desert energy, mother earth and mountains that surrounded me.

Spending time meditating, mindfully walking and reflecting on the blessings of the year, the challenges that created growth in my Spirit and envisioning what it is that Spirit wants me to share with this coming year was a wonderful way to ground into what is and loving me.

So enjoy the vid... Trust me, this is stepping a bit out of my comfort zone... but hey, gotta feel the fear and do it! Woooohooooo! Cheers to a blissed out, magical, abundant and shiny New Year! Love and Light to you all!!! XOXO!
